An
update to the development of the image trace. After carefully tracing
the rest of the flours and experimenting with the stoke width and
colour, I am left with the result as shown. A clean and simplistic
design. At first I thought this style of design was effective,
especially when viewed on the screen. However upon reflection the design
looks a bit too plain. The white space is over empowering and the
design looks too much like the Haynes car manuels.

Instantprint - Design Development 3
The fustrations with the previous idea and due to my indecisive nature this has lead to the development of another idea. Instead of Photoshop I resorted to the use of Illustrator to trace the outlines of a flower. Removing the original image left just the solid lines which created a simplitic clean design. As sleek and simple is on trend at the minute I feel that opting for this style over the previous allows for more options to be taken with it.
The designs are still a work in progress but I feel there is potential in this idea.

Instantprint - Client Meeting
Today a representative from Instant Print came into see how the project was coming along. This involved giving individual presentations in which we presented our ideas and how we plan on developing them further. The benefit of doing this allowed us direct feedback from the client which helped us know what the client liked and what they were looking for.
With my design it was noted that the style looked attractive and colourful. It displayed potential but fundamentally the design needed to be applied to a business card or other related mediums. I agree with everything the client said. I think that I have put too much focus in creating an illustrative piece of work instead of solving the creative task. In order to meet the clients need I will have to reexamine my research and perhaps try developing a different idea. I feel that I have reached a dead end with this idea and have exhausted the possibilities.

Instantprint - Design Development 2
Continuing on with the development of my initial ideas I have taken the previous idea further by experimenting with different composistions. As noted previously I felt the black was perhaps too over empowering and effected the overall feel of the design. Therefore I changed the colour to a more softer tone this time using a pastel green which flows better the rest of the piece. I also increased the amount of flowers within the clipping mask which provided a better visual and more range of colour. I also added a subtle overlay of flowers to increase depth and add perspective.
With the advise of the tutor he suggested that I look at early Adobe artwork and look at their packaging for the software at the time. As a result I ended up changing the single circle into a flower shape which I duplicated to create a tower of them with the layers underneath still visible. The image still needs more work done to it but with the client coming in to give us feedback I will have to present this idea into a business card format.

Album Competition - WSS
While She Sleeps, a metal band from Shelfield, England (a particular good one of that) have launched a competition to celebrate the digital repackage of their album This Is The Six.
"Turn your hand to designing a new cover for This Is The Six. Download the images, or put your own spin on the artwork and submit your creations tagged #ThisIsTheSix via Tumblr, Twitter or email your creations to: whileshesleepscomp@gmail.com"
The design criteria for the competition is fairly basic with only 2 rules, the creation must be square (i.e. 1:1 ratio) and contain the “WSS” or full While She Sleeps logo. All creations have to be submitted before Record Store Day and the grand prize winner will receive a signed 1-of-a-kind White Label copy of “Death Toll” 7” Vinyl.
Album design is something which I have always wanted to try and given the opportunity I think It would useful for my own development. It will allow me the freedom of exploring something different to what I am studying now, but with this in mind my workload is already full at the minute therefore this will have to be a case of finding the time as there is more important things to do.
