Packaging - Development Update

Today I took my packaging nets into the production phase and began making 3D prototypes of the final designs.

In my final designs there featured a tear strip and small cut-outs which required the use of a laser cutter in order to achieve the precise scoring needed. The use of diagonal lines as suggested for the tear strip did not work and caused the material to fall apart upon construction. If the box could not hold it's shape on it's own, then it definitely was not going to be able to support the intended purpose. On seeking advice from the laser cutter operator we reverted to using 1mm dashed lines instead. This allowed the tear strip to retain enough strength to be able to support the box shape as well as the contents with in it whilst still allowing it to open with ease. The small shapes were cut out without any problems and proved to be useful in aiding the aesthetics of the design.

I am fairly pleased with the final prototype and the opening mechanism has proved effective. With the deadline fast approaching I will have to begin producing the final versions. The material used proved sturdy enough to be used for the final.
